The early generation of digital marketers do not deal with search engines when they create campaigns. Hence, the term Search Engine Optimization (SEO) may not be popular [that time] or has not been invented. They only care about the structure of websites and make it listed in website directories, which is considered an old school method nowadays. However, when search engines became popular in the late 90’s to early 2000’s, everything has changed in the digital marketing industry. That’s when the digital marketers switched their focus.
A decade has passed and there have been a lot of search engines you can find online. But have you ever thought of focusing on particular search engines where you will be able to maximize your resources and devote your time?
In my opinion, you should focus on the three below.
This is a no-brainer choice among digital marketers or SEO specialists. It has been launched in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
With over a billion active users per day, Google is the biggest search engine website and one of the most successful internet companies globally.
Bing
It’s the search engine owned by Microsoft, which is also one of the forefront and biggest internet companies globally. Originally launched as MSN Search in 1998, it has been rebranded into Windows Live Search in 2006 and into Live Search a year after. Then in 2009, Microsoft has decided to drop all the footprints of its original name by relaunching it as Bing.
Bing is no doubt the second world’s most valuable search engine next to Google. It has successfully penetrated the market as Microsoft has integrated it into its Windows, a popular computer operating system (OS).
DuckDuckGo
The search engine that protects users’ privacy and information. It’s considered one of the newest search engines in the market as it has been launched just way back in 2008 by Gabriel Weinberg. But don’t underestimate DuckDuckGo. It has been getting a lot of attention lately and acquiring active users because of its incredible vision of how should a search engine works and how it should handle users’ data.
To conclude, focusing on those three search engines is enough for a website to get found in the internet. But remember, all search engines have different set of rules that have to be followed and study carefully before executing a digital marketing strategy.
