A business may have numerous goals why it established social media presence. But whatever it is, part of your tasks as a social media specialist is to be familiar with the fundamentals of your profession.

You have to know your target market

Keep in mind that before creating an account in a social media platform, you should have already decided your target market or the people you want to be the followers. It will be much better if this is aligned to your brand’s needs. This will help you plan and strategize the social media marketing on your business page.

You have to create original content

After determining your target market, your next step is to create original contents that are dedicated to them. This will help your business page gain or maintain impressions or good engagement rate.

You have to study the behaviors of your followers

Managing a business page is never easy especially if you have already acquired a high number of followers. However, that should not be a reason why you are not analyzing the behaviors of your followers. Remember, your goal is follower retention. You have to regularly check the posts that are performing well in terms of engagement rate and study how you made it. You will also have to analyze your underperforming campaigns so you would know the things you have to improve.

Study the algorithm of the social media platform you use

This can be related to the third item. The behavior of your followers may not be only reason why your campaign did not perform well. The algorithm of the social media platform might be the culprit. Because of that, you will also have to study the algorithm of the platform you have been using. If there are available resources in getting information about the algorithm of the platform you have been using, make sure to utilize it as it will be useful in managing your organic campaigns.

Finding new social media platforms

Don’t get stuck in a single platform or to the platforms you have been using. You should always be updated on the trends and sign up immediately to a new platform you think will be popular in the future. Remember, early accounts have the higher probability of getting a high number of followers — that as long as the business page you have created has been optimized very well.

All businesses may be different to each other and may have different tasks for a social media specialist. Because of that, you might have some duties not listed above. Nonetheless, I suggest you not to limit yourself into the five basic tasks I have mentioned or even to your tasks that are not listed. Always find new ways how your business page will be able to connect effectively with its target market.
